Helen Casto didn’t always know that she wanted to be a teacher. Once she started her program at Ohio University Eastern, however, she realized how much she wanted to inspire students to become the best versions of themselves. Ms. Casto has taught every grade and subject from preschool to high school, including a stint as a substitute high school welding teacher. She has taught in Brooke and Hancock counties in West Virginia and in the city schools of Steubenville, Ohio. Ms. Casto’s other experiences include teaching at Northern Panhandle Head Start and a starting a STEM program in Pittsburgh called Precocity Academy. That program allows students of all ages and backgrounds to learn collegiate level science concepts through hands-on activities. Since 2013, Ms. Casto has been teaching at Pugliese West Elementary School. She is currently working on her Master of Education in Teacher Leadership with a Specialization in Gifted Education. Her years of teaching experience have ingrained in Ms. Casto that children are only able to learn and reach their potential if classroom management is under control.
